This is a poem/song I (Kellen) wrote about (well, more for) my father and really about the Abreu-clan in general.

You see we are a bit of a tragic story.

Family taken to early, due to the careless (over)use of alcohol, and the poor choices that led to stepping behind the wheel.

We’ve endured a lot, brothers, sisters, mothers and fathers passing.

Being taken from friends, depression (of our parents and our own).

Being separated from those that love us most.

Though we have rejoiced over a lot (Sisters, daughters, wives, grandchildren, great grandchildren, christmas, birthdays, good food well cooked and eaten, swimming on a chilly spring day, mountains and lakes, graduations, book releases, album releases… I think you get the idea).

I feel that this story is more about how we “carry on” despite the pain… how we find (sometimes mundane) things to celebrate simply because we love to celebrate… we cherish life more than most because life has been so precious to us.

Suffice to say, that I am not sure what to say.

A  friend recently told me to write what I know, and well I feel like I understand family (at least some small part of it).
